Ever been interested in learning about Japanese-style pruning? Join garden curator and head Niwashi Ben Schrepf as he takes you on a tour of the Japanese Friendship Garden and then demonstrates several methods of pruning commonly practiced in Japanese Gardens. Topics covered will include Japanese pine pruning, shrubs(tamamono and karikomi), rejuvenation of older plant material, and sukashi (thinning). Please join us! 
 

Garden Curator, Ben Schrepf, has trained in Japan and America as an apprentice of master Japanese pine pruner, John Powell. He is a highly sought-after Japanese Gardener who has pruned pines in authentic Japanese Gardens throughout the country and time after time at our very own RoHoEn. Take this chance to learn a rarely taught, traditional art form passed down through the generations and draw from this fascinating technique to sculpt your own garden trees.

The Garden is located at 1125 North 3rd Avenue, between 3rd Avenue and Latham (2 blocks North of Roosevelt). Parking is available at the garden. 

When riding the Light Rail, exit at the Central and Roosevelt stop. The Garden is located on the west side of the rail, 0.3 miles from the station; it is directly behind the Irish Cultural Center (1106 N. Central Ave, Phoenix), just north of Portland Avenue. The Garden entrance is across the parking lot at 1125 N. 3rd Avenue.
